How it works in skincare

In cosmetics and skincare, conditioning agents work by forming a light protective layer on the surface of skin or hair. This reduces moisture loss, smooths the cuticle or skin surface, and improves slip so that brushes, hands and razors glide more easily. They are widely used in hair conditioners, body lotions, creams, leave-in sprays and cleansing products to counteract the drying effects of surfactants and environmental exposure while delivering an immediate soft-touch feel.

Where it comes from

Many conditioning agents are derived from natural plant oils, butters and waxes such as coconut, shea, argan and jojoba, as well as fatty acids obtained from vegetable sources. Some are also produced from mineral sources or synthesised to closely mimic natural lipids.
