Right hen, I'd had one too many wines and was properly moaning about my nails snapping like twiglets every time I typed a report or braved the pissing Glasgow rain. So I nabbed this Catrice Stronger Than Ever Nail Hardener for a ridiculous £2.49 in Boots and gave it a proper real-world test over a few weeks, no fancy salon shite.

It's a fast-drying transparent formula with celery seed extract that you can slap on alone or under polish. I've been using it twice a week in my chaotic evening routine and I'm here to tell you straight - this stuff is a wee belter for us mortals battling weak nails.

Texture and first impressions

Texture is spot on, mate - none of that thick gloopy nonsense that takes forever to dry and leaves your nails feeling like they're wearing a plaster cast. This goes on smooth as a good gossip, dries in seconds and gives a proper shiny finish without any streaks or strong chemical pong.

First impressions? I was pure dead chuffed. The brush is easy to control even after a couple of glasses, it doesn't feel heavy on the nail and in this damp UK weather it gave my sad wee nails an instant bit of protection and gleam. No pretentious vibes, just does what it says.

Wear and day-to-day use

Day-to-day it's been a lifesaver. My nails feel harder and havenae been splitting when I'm scrubbing dishes, chasing the bus in the rain or hammering away at the laptop. Wears well for days, works brilliant as a base under my usual polish for nights out and doesn't chip off like some treatments.

In proper British winter conditions where your hands are either frozen or soaking wet, it keeps doing its thing. Part of my quick bedtime routine now - slap it on, have a cuppa and my nails are lasting longer without the usual breakage. Proper game changer for a working lass.

Value and who it suits

At £2.49 from Boots (or £5.77 on Amazon) it's an absolute steal for what you get, especially sitting at #7 in nail treatments on our site with a 4.7 star merchant rating. You dinnae need to drop a fortune on fancy salon stuff when this delivers without the faff.

Suits anyone sick of brittle nails - busy mums whose hands are constantly in water, office workers typing all day, or nail biters trying to grow them out. If you're anti-pretension like me and want something that works in real UK life without costing the earth, this is your new best mate.

Our verdict

4.5 / 5 Final take

Overall this Catrice Stronger Than Ever Nail Hardener is fucking brilliant for the price and does exactly what it promises without any beauty industry bollocks. My nails feel tougher, look shinier and are actually surviving my chaotic routine - I'm proper converted.

If your nails are as fragile as my diet resolutions, sort them with this. Check it out here: Catrice Stronger Than Ever Nail Hardener 010 10,5ml, 105ml. Slàinte to stronger nails, hen - you won't regret it.
