Clinique Even Better Makeup Foundation — Our Honest Review
Clinique Even Better Makeup Medium Coverage Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 CN 28 Ivory CN 28 - 28 Ivory CN 28
£27.99
Alright hen, I've been testing this Clinique Even Better Makeup Medium Coverage Foundation in CN 28 Ivory for two weeks straight and after a few wines I'm finally giving you the proper truth. At £27.99 on Amazon and sitting at #2 in foundations on the site with 4.6 stars from 14444 reviews, it better be decent because my pale Scottish face does not suffer fools.
I'm just a normal lass from Glasgow who needs her slap to survive pissing rain one minute and sticky office heat the next. No fancy routines here – moisturiser, this foundation, quick brush of blush and I'm out the door. It claims 24-hour wear with a natural matte finish and bugger me it mostly delivers without feeling like a mask.
Texture and first impressions
The texture is lovely and light, more like a thin cream than that gloopy shite you get in the high street. Blends like a dream with my fingers even when I'm half asleep after a late one, and it didn't sit in my pores or emphasise the dry bits round my nose. First impressions? My skin looked even and awake without the heavy feeling – perfect for us combo-skin types who live in this mad UK weather.
It's got vitamin C in there but I didn't obsess over that, I cared that it felt comfy from the first swipe and didn't irritate my sensitive skin. No fragrance either, which is a relief when half the stuff in Boots makes me sneeze. Anti-pretension win.
Wear and day-to-day use
Wore it through a typical Glasgow week of drizzle, wind and the odd after-work pint and it held up like a champ. Didn't cake when I was laughing my arse off, didn't slide off in the humidity on the tube, and by 6pm it still looked like I'd only put it on an hour ago. That flexible wear thing is real because it moved when my face moved instead of cracking.
In British weather that changes faster than my mood, this didn't streak or go patchy like my old Boots one. Lasted my full 9-5 plus Tesco run without needing a touch-up. By bedtime it was still decent, though I always double cleanse anyway because I'm not a savage.
Value and who it suits
At £27.99 it's not pocket change but with that massive rating and site ranking it's solid value for something that actually does the job without faff. Better than the cheap ones that flake by lunchtime and cheaper than the department store stuff that feels the same. I got good medium coverage that looked like skin, not makeup, which is what I want on a Tuesday morning.
Suits pale lassies like me with combo skin who burn in five minutes of 'British summer' – the SPF15 is a bonus. If you're after full coverage for a wedding this might not cut it, but for everyday chaos, commuting and pub sessions it's ideal. Not for very dry skin probably, but most of us will get on with it fine.
Verdict
4.5 / 5. This Clinique Even Better Makeup Foundation is a bloody keeper, hen. It does what it says on the tin without any of that influencer nonsense – comfortable, reliable and actually works in real UK life. If you're done with foundations that cake or disappear by dinnertime, give this a go at Clinique Even Better Makeup Medium Coverage Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 CN 28 Ivory CN 28 - 28 Ivory CN 28.
Not perfect but damn close for the price and the rating. I'd buy it again and that's the highest praise after too many wines. Slap it on, feel good, get on with your day. From one mate to another, it's worth it.
