How it works in skincare

In cosmetics Vitamin C functions primarily as a potent antioxidant that helps neutralise free radicals generated by UV exposure and pollution. It inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase to reduce the appearance of dark spots and uneven pigmentation, while supporting natural collagen synthesis to improve skin firmness and elasticity. Modern stable forms such as ascorbyl glucoside, sodium ascorbyl phosphate and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate are preferred in British formulations because they remain effective longer in water-based and emulsion products without oxidising as quickly as pure L-ascorbic acid.
