Synthetic Fluorphlogopite

How it works in skincare
In cosmetic formulations Synthetic Fluorphlogopite acts as a substrate for pearlescent and interference pigments. It is coated with thin layers of titanium dioxide or iron oxides to produce different colours and sparkle effects. Because it has a very smooth, flat platelet structure it reflects light uniformly, giving products a brilliant, multidimensional shimmer without the heaviness of traditional glitter.

Where it comes from
Although the name contains “phlogopite”, a natural mica mineral, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite is produced in a laboratory by melting together inorganic raw materials including magnesium oxide, aluminium oxide, silica and potassium fluorosilicate at very high temperatures.
