Jojoba
Jojoba is a lightweight, wax-like oil that closely mimics the skin’s natural sebum, making it a popular all-rounder in UK skincare and haircare. It absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel and is suitable for most skin types. Gentle yet effective, it helps balance oil production while providing lasting hydration and softness.
How it works in skincare
In cosmetics and skincare, jojoba acts as an excellent emollient and natural moisturiser. Its unique wax ester composition closely resembles human sebum, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the skin’s lipid layer. This helps reinforce the skin barrier, prevent moisture loss and regulate oil production, making it a versatile ingredient in facial oils, cleansers, moisturisers, hair treatments and lip balms.

Where it comes from
Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis), a desert plant native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. The seeds produce a golden, odourless liquid wax ester rather than a true oil.
