Och hen, after another pish day dodging Glasgow rain and absolute numpties on the bus I cracked open this Aromatherapy Associates Bath and Shower Oil thinking it better live up to the hype. One capful in the tub and the whole bathroom smelled like a proper hug - none of that fancy marketing bollocks, it actually made me exhale for the first time all day.

At £39 from Amazon (don't bother with the £65 Pure Beauty rip-off) and sitting at #3 in body wash with 4.8 stars from 108 folk, I gave it a proper go. It's vegan, nut-free, SLS-free and turns your usual scrub into something that feels like you're looking after yourself for once.

Texture and first impressions

It's a proper concentrated oil, not some watery body wash that foams like mad and does hee-haw. Chuck a wee bit in and the water goes all silky and lush. First squirt from the bottle and that clary sage hits you - herbal, soothing, like it knows you've had a day and then some.

No greasy film left on your skin or the tub either which surprised the hell out of me. For something this posh it feels dead straightforward and anti-pretension, just turns your bog-standard bath into something warmer and nicer without any chemist-speak nonsense.

Wear and day-to-day use

In the shower it doesn't lather loads but the scent wraps round you like a mate saying 'you're alright'. Skin feels comforted and soft after, not stripped like with the cheap supermarket stuff we all grab in a rush. Perfect for these dark UK winters when everything feels like a slog.

The aroma lingers just enough to keep you steadier without screaming at you all evening. Used it on a Sunday night after a week of pure chaos and actually slept like the dead. No miracle cure but it turns washing into a proper pause instead of another chore.

Value and who it suits

£39 feels like a lot until you realise the bottle lasts bloody ages because you only need a couple drops each time. Way better value than those massive bottles of crap that end up down the drain. It's #3 for a reason - does the job without the faff.

Suits stressed-out mates, shift workers, or anyone whose head's all scattered after a typical British day of rain and nonsense. If you want vegan formulas that actually smell decent and leave you feeling lifted instead of empty, this is your pal. Pair it with a glass of wine and thank me later.

Our verdict

4.5 / 5 Final take

Look this Aromatherapy Associates Bath and Shower Oil isn't going to fix your entire life but fuck me it makes the bath or shower feel like actual self-care instead of just getting clean. If you're after a moment of calm without the pretension grab it at AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES Bath and Shower Oil and treat yourself ya legend.

Skip the dearer options, Amazon's £39 version is the one. It earned its 4.8 stars and my messy recommendation - solid, honest joy in a bottle for when life gets too much.
