Jojoba Seed Oil
Jojoba seed oil is a lightweight, non-greasy oil that closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum, making it a popular choice in UK skincare and haircare products. It absorbs quickly without leaving a heavy residue and is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive and oily skin. Derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant, it is widely used in moisturisers, cleansers, serums and lip balms.
How it works in skincare
In cosmetics and skincare, jojoba seed oil functions as an excellent emollient and natural moisturiser that helps to soften and smooth the skin while reinforcing the skin’s lipid barrier. Its unique wax ester composition allows it to mimic the skin’s own sebum, enabling it to balance oil production without clogging pores. It also provides a silky feel in formulations, improves product spreadability and helps stabilise oil-based products, making it a versatile ingredient in facial oils, creams, hair treatments and cleansing balms.

Where it comes from
Jojoba seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis), a desert plant native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. The seeds produce a golden, odourless liquid wax ester that is cold-pressed to create the oil used in cosmetics.
